Challenging the Notion of Taxation: OnlyFans Model Questions Tax on Unrecognized Job
  • Published

Billie Beever, an OnlyFans model from Australia, has sparked a debate about taxation and the recognition of her profession after expressing frustration over online hate and the lack of respect for her work.

In an interview with news.com.au, the 30-year-old model, crowned Best Female Porn Star at the Australian Adult Industry Choice Awards, voiced her discontent with being told her job isn’t legitimate and that she should find a “real job.” She questioned why she should pay significant taxes if her profession isn’t respected by society.

Beever highlighted the misconception surrounding her job, emphasizing the effort and dedication it requires. She found it contradictory that while people dismiss her work as illegitimate, they expect her to pay taxes like any other worker.

The issue of taxation for sex workers has been a topic of discussion in Australia, with a user raising questions about tax deductions for OnlyFans creators on the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) community board in 2021. More recently, OnlyFans creator Tasha Paige’s viral TikTok video in October drew attention to the substantial taxes she had to pay to the Australian government, despite the industry’s lack of recognition.

Beever reiterated her stance on taxation in a TikTok video, expressing her frustration at being subjected to taxes for a job deemed “unreal” by many. Her bold statement resonated with viewers, receiving support and encouragement from her followers.

This isn’t the first time Beever has faced backlash for her career choice. In 2020, she spoke out about the abuse she receives from online trolls, particularly during economic hardships. Despite the negativity, Beever remains steadfast in defending her profession, emphasizing her autonomy and control over her work and income.

As debates surrounding the recognition and taxation of sex work continue, voices like Beever’s shed light on the challenges faced by individuals in the industry and prompt discussions about societal perceptions and policies.
